Review: Tedeschi Trucks Band and Leon Russell Present: Mad Dogs & Englishmen Revisited (LIVE AT LOCKN’) – Release date September 12, 2025
As music fans, we often find ourselves drawn to the music of days gone by, appreciating it just a bit more than today’s current song stylings. On September 12, 2025, we can have the best of both worlds with the new album from Tedeschi Trucks Band (TTB). Their release of Mad Dogs & Englishmen Revisited is not just another album, but a unique opportunity to relive one of rock history’s most unforgettable live collaborations. This is a chance to experience the magic of the Joe Cocker/Leon Russell tour, featuring fourteen outstanding songs, all over again.
Recorded during the LOCKN’ Festival in 2015, this album is finally being released ten years after its original recording. What makes this album truly special is the inclusion of some fantastic musicians, such as the full Tedeschi Trucks Band, and original Mad Dogs members like Rita Coolidge, Claudia Lennear, and Chris Stainton, alongside special guests including Warren Haynes, Chris Robinson, and Dave Mason. Leon Russell served as pianist andn spiritual guide for the event. This album is a must-have for any music enthusiast, offering a rare glimpse into a historic live collaboration and the chance to hear the original members perform once again.
Susan Tedeschi is at her absolute best with classics like ‘The Letter’ and ‘Darling Be Home Soon’. ‘Sticks and Stones’ and ‘With A Little Help From My Friends,’ featuring Chris Robinson on vocals, are music listening at its finest, showcasing the talents of this incredible band, with everyone contributing to the success of these particular songs. Dave Mason’s outstanding performance of ‘Feelin’ Alright’ will have you feeling alright. ‘She Came In Through The Bathroom Window’ has been recorded by many, but never as good as this version.
Rita Coolidge, an original member of the Cocker/Russell tour, performs admirably on ‘Bird On The Wire’, adding nostalgia to the entire experience. In addition, seven other songs make this one of the greatest live albums ever. Other songs include ‘ Delta Lady’, ‘Dixie Lullaby’, ‘Girl From The North Country’, ‘Let’s Go Get Stoned’,’ Space Captain’, ‘The Weight’, and ‘The Ballad Of Mad Dogs And Englishmen’.
The musical talent and chemistry on this album are incredible and will go down in history as a musical masterpiece.
TTB recently resumed their Live in ’25 Tour, an expansive North American outing produced by Live Nation, that will continue until the end of October. Check out the tour schedule HERE.
