The song serves as the second single from their upcoming album A La Mode, set to drop on May 8th via Quarto Valley Records. It follows the rising hit “I Hope You Know,” which is currently sitting at #20 on the Rock Radio charts and still climbing.

“Mr. Midnight” delivers a thick, gritty electric blues-rock punch with a raw, retro edge that nods to ZZ Top’s “Tush” while channeling the fiery modern blues energy of Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. Those slippery, dangerous guitar riffs conjure up late-night scenes on Beale Street—whiskey glass in hand, hunting for the kind of trouble that feels too good to pass up—all anchored by Paul Rodgers’ unmistakable, soul-soaked 70s rock swagger.

Paul Rodgers shared the story behind the song: “I wrote ‘Mr. Midnight’ a few years back during a writing binge that unexpectedly turned into my album Midnight Rose. I had no clue those songs would become a full record at the time. When Sun Records showed interest, turning them down would’ve been crazy. Somehow I completely forgot about this particular track, which is why it never made the album. My bassist Todd Ronning—who later joined Bad Company—played on the original demo and remembered it well.”

He continued: “The whole thing started with this guitar riff that kept rattling around in my head. I built the song around it. For the lyrics, I got inspired by one of my wife Cynthia’s rescued cats—a sleek, jet-black beauty named Jasper. I started calling him Mr. Midnight because of that shiny black coat. From there… well, you can let your imagination run wild.

When I heard what Hillbilly Vegas did with it, Steve Harris nailed the vibe so perfectly that I didn’t want to step on what they’d created. But I’d promised the guys in the band I’d get involved, so I jumped in and added some vocals. It turned out better than I expected.”

Rock At Night Says: Hillbilly Vegas’ “Mr. Midnight” is pure, unfiltered 50s-rooted blues rock—classic, vintage, and exactly how rock ‘n’ roll is supposed to feel. Written (and partially sung) by the legendary Paul Rodgers? That’s not just a solid track… that’s a damn win.
