Review: OF LIMBO’s album “Of Limbo – Unplugged” – Release date July 18, 2025
If you’re a fan of authentic, unplugged music that showcases a band’s true talent, OF LIMBO, formed by brothers Jake and Luke Davies, is a must-listen. Their newest release, ‘Unplugged,’ is not just another acoustic album. It’s a unique and refreshing take on their signature sound, featuring raw, soulful performances that highlight their musical versatility. With heartfelt lyrics and acoustic arrangements that are second to none, ‘Unplugged’ feels intimate and genuine, allowing listeners to connect deeply with the emotion behind each track. The interpretations of their acoustic guitar songs (including live versions of ‘Down In a Hole’ and ‘Little Darling’) are some of the best in the business. However, don’t confuse these guys with an easy-going, acoustic-based band that wants you to sit on your hands and remain quiet. When they perform live, doing their electric set, they want you to sing, dance, and party as they transform from Clark Kent into a wild and manic Superman.
Get ready to be deeply moved by the emotional depth of OF LIMBO’s music. Their rendition of Radiohead’s ‘Street Spirit’ is not just a cover; it’s a powerful interpretation that will stir your soul. ‘Something Real’ is another gem that will leave you in awe of the band’s incredible vocals and superb guitar work. ‘One of These Days’ is a beautiful Heart/Ann Wilson type song that, if you close your eyes and let go, you should be able to imagine these fine musicians in your living room serenading you. Also of interest, how often do you hear a band take on the challenge of a Van Halen song (‘Finish What You Started’) and do it well? Amazing. ‘Firetruck’ is entertaining enough and is highlighted with some fantastic guitar work from Luke. Estrada is the first-ever OF LIMBO instrumental song!
One of the first songs Jake ever wrote, dating back to when he was just a teenager, he has always referred to it as his attempt at playing flamenco. You will be pleasantly surprised at Jake’s potential even as a teenager. ‘Joke’s On You’ was initially reviewed by Rock at Night back in February 2025, and I recall thinking at the time that this was a well-crafted song, and I couldn’t wait for additional material from this band. The wait is over, and the excitement is just beginning.
