Review: Absolight / You Are Right Single – Release date, November 15, 2024
Whenever a certain genre is proclaimed ‘dead and gone’ by the music critics, it somehow crops up again (and again) either in its original form or in a manner that slightly (or greatly) turns into something else.
That is certainly the case with all the forms that rose from the ‘original’ hard rock of the late sixties/early seventies, as it transformed in everything from post-punk to grunge and elsewhere.
The case in point here is the Quebec trio Absolight and their single ‘You Are Right. Born from the spontaneous reunion of drummer Antony Jomphe and twin brothers Olivier and Carl Ricard, long-time friends and former bandmates, the trio is all over the hard (and a bit heavy) rock map – from the original hard rock to everything grunge mutated into, say, the Foo Fighters.
As the band says, ”You Are Right’ is inspired by the challenges of modern society, where communication often breaks down, and discussing polarized issues becomes increasingly difficult. It reflects on the struggle to accept differing points of view, focusing on the negative impact of egocentric individuals who are fixated on their own beliefs and worldview.
The key point – it works.
