Single Review: Liv’s ‘Why Yet” – Release date April 26, 2024
The newest single released from indie-pop artist Liv. is “Why Yet” – is an incredibly poignant, deep-dive into her reminiscence of an old flame that burnt out painfully slow. The title is a hilarious pun for those of us on the inside of her social circles (you’ll just have to take my word for it). “I will always love you / wish that was a lie” is only a quick sample of some of the most scathing lyrics, only challenged by “I took back the big red moon” – a genius parallel to a love song from her debut full-length album about the same muse. Gritty electric guitar rhythms provide delightful dynamic shifts, as Liv. has intuitively engineered the fuzzed out chorus to beautifully explode in an angry haze while contrasting with the clarity and peace of the verses.
It’s this “yes” and “no” of the relationship that leaves the speaker of the song hung up and dissatisfied. This song brings the listener right into that painful limbo space populated by equal parts regret and frustration. Subtle droning accompanies the lyrics and weaves in and out each portion of the song, providing a sense of uncertainty even in the more chilled-out verse sections. Liv. is a masterful artist, not only in her lyrical delivery, but also in the way she provides an atmospheric experience that listeners crave. She teamed up with producer extraordinaire Annamarie Rosanio to work on this record, and if this song is anything like what’s to come next, then her fans are undeniably in for an inventively honest treat.

In addition to her writing careers as a published author, editor, and contributor to Rock at Night Magazine, Singer graduated Magna Cum Laude from Stonehill College in 2019 where she studied English, Music, and of course, Creative Writing. In her spare time she enjoys crocheting, as well as mentoring younger music students at a local music store - where she studied guitar for over a decade. She views her writing as a way to simultaneously escape and embrace reality.
