Review: Incandenza’s “Changing the Narrative” – Release date April 28, 2026

Not everybody makes it as a solo artist in Nashville, and when you play anything else that is not at least barely related to country music, it makes it doubly hard. So what do you do instead as a musician?

Well, you try to make it as a side and/or session musician, and that can really work for you, particularly if you can play more than one instrument. And it did work for Samuel Wilson, primarily a guitarist, who also plays pedal steel guitar and sings. His instrumental (and vocal) capabilities got him stints with the likes of Maddie & Tae, The War and Treaty, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and John Oates (Stories & Songs tour), among others.

Yet, as an artist who is versed not only in the regular Nashville fare, but also being a composer himself and with a background spanning rock, country, classical, and jazz, Wilson decided to venture out himself, the result being him working with a cast of seasoned friends under the banner of Incandenza, resulting in his debut titled “Changing the Narrative.”

And the narrative is truly changed here. Nashville sound, or more precisely, your regular pop country, is practically nowhere to be heard here – it is on the harder side of all of rock’s sub-genres, from indie to stoner rock, even stoner metal. And yes, Nashville can rock, and very hard at that, as this album amply proves.
