Review: Hater – Mosquito – Release date; March 6, 2026

Those not that familiar with Swedish quartet Hater, just by looking at the name of the band might get the wrong idea what to expect. After all, the band wasn’t around for some three years now, so anybody who might thing that they are in for some heavy rockin’ in any shape or form just might be a bit disappointed.

Or not? You see, Hater just might be a bit of a misnomer if you consider their overall sound which is modern indie pop/rock of the high-quality kind. And that is where that ‘a bit’ thing comes in – there is a sort of a mythical theme going one in the lyrics here, with all the vampires, Cupid and even mosquitoes themselves get a mythical touch. A sort of dark shoegaze if you will.

It might sound like a strange combination, but it is one that works, and lead singer Caroline Landahi explains: “There’s no song about ‘smootchy smootchy love you to bits’ on Mosquito. More about having your heart scratched, butterflies in your stomach, feeling empty and heartbroken, the physical feeling and rollercoaster of being.”

Essentially, a bit strange and quite a bit beautiful at the same time.
