Review: Pol Sembrano’s single “Open Mind” – Release date: February 16, 2026
It seems electro pop is getting some serious revival, particularly if there are some nice dance grooves incorporated there. It is a crowd there at the moment, but if you are good, you’ll get a hefty dose of streams on any of the more popular services.
Joining that crowd with some good chances of getting his dose of streams is Pol Sembrano, a Filipino-American composer and classically trained pianist from Seattle. Announcing his upcoming album, Sembrano has just released the album’s first single, ‘Open Mind.’
Sembrano seems to be playing it safe, taking cues for the best of the eighties electro-boom – Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Blondie, New Order. Yet, what on surface might seem a safe move could also be a risky one, as if you are just a copycat, or don’t cite your sources properly, trouble is imminent.
Fortunately. Sembrano does it all right, coming up with a modernized version of the eighties that has both the move and the groove to make you dancing or keep your toes tapping even if you are sitting down. A very good album introduction.
