Review: Benjamin Dean Wilson’s album Until the House Falls – Release date: November 22, 2025

You can find quite a number of albums by artists trying to create a cinematic experience solely through music. In most cases, they go for imaginary films, with instrumental music trying to create both an aural and visual experience.

It is a bit of rarity to see (well, actually her) artist going for both instrumental and vocal creation of a specific audio movie. Back in the twenties and thirties of the previous century, there were quite a few radio plays taking that route, and among more current rock artists, Frank Zappa was one of the rare artists with such attempts.

These days, this could be quite a curious experience, as it demands the listeners full attention to appreciate (or dislike) what is going on. It is a tricky task to tackle, as it requires not only good music, but also equally high-quality vocal/spoken word script to make it work.

Even with the high risk such a concept requires, but Tulsa, Oklahoma songwriter, composer and filmmaker Benjamin Dean Wilson dared to take this route with his debut album ‘Until The House Falls.’ Wilson’s filmmaking experience (he won top awards at multiple film festivals for his feature films ‘Nuts! The Musical’ and ‘Ivan and Craig’) works in his favor here, as he is able to do the vocal/spoken word script justice. At the same time, the musical score works in his favor too, as like Zappa, he goes through a number of genres to convey his story.

‘Until The House Falls’ demands full attention while playing, but is worth the listener’s time.
