Review: The Riptide Rats’ album ‘Waves of Steel’

Album Review

Review: The Riptide Rats – ‘Waves Of Steel’  – Release date: November 20th

‘Waves Of Steel’ is a 12-track instrumental surf album rooted in first wave tone and early rock ’n’ roll punch, shaped by spaghetti western style tension and a modern edge. Familiar surf language, but played tighter, harder and with more attention to phrasing, rhythm and momentum than the vintage era allowed. Call it SURF ROCK! Recorded at Shed Studios with a focus on touch and natural guitar dynamics. Real reverb tanks, tube amps and a performance first process give the record a physical, direct tone built on playing, not processing. The record ranges from fast, action-driven surf to melodic traditional themes and darker familiar spaghetti western tunes. Some tracks hit with pure surf energy, others lean toward instrumental rock and 12-bar roots, always staying grounded in surf tone and discipline. No retro gimmicks — just focused writing, tight playing and clear intention.
