Review: Shaki Tavi – Minor Slip – Release date: August 15, 2025
It sure is not easy for a new band to have their music heard these days, particularly if your sound crosses lines between different rock genres. Yet, if it sounds good, it just might get a chance it deserves.
Deserving that chance is Oklahoma born, now Los Angeles settled rocker Leon Mason who, along with a rotating set of band members (live crew includes Marcos Plata (drums), Dane Meyer (bass) operates as Shaki Tavi and has just released his debut album ‘Minor Slip.’
Mason loves those big, loud guitar sounds that go from heavy to shoegaze and elsewhere, as long as it is buzzing all over, with som cool vocals to boot. The thing though that sets the Shaki Tavi sound apart is some inventive song structures, that Mason picked up from everywhere, but then combined them in his head as he saw fit. Sure, you can sense that his vas music collection includes everything loud – from Kyuss to Dinosaur Jr. and My Bloody Valentine among others, but he meshes all these sounds quite fluidly, as if they were ment to be together. All these sounds make Shaki Tavi something to look out for from now on.
