Review: Big Bill – “Cameras” – Release date: September 30, 2025

The days of original punk signature sounds – counting at the top of the song, fast pace and simple cord changes only have long gone. Now things are a bit more complicated it seems, as the bands bring in more complexity into their song structures and by that, make thigs a bit more interesting. If not, at least a bit different.

Not that the energy and speed are gone, they are simply taken to another level, and in many cases, that means a bit more quality and better songs. A case in question – Austin’s Big Bill and their latest single “Cameras.” It is a second single from their upcoming album Sick Myth (November 2025), where the winners of this year’s ‘Best Punk Band’ award at the Austin Music Awards bring in all those ‘new’ elements into this song – a more complex melody and chord changes, without dropping those ‘old’ ones – energy, conviction and some ominous vocals to boot.

“The nervous energy of ‘Cameras’ evokes the paranoid stress of living under surveillance,” the band explains. “The opening lyric came from an article about the modern U.S.-Mexico border– the phrase ‘integrated fixed towers’ refers to the cameras that tower over border communities, these noisy ever-present eyeballs watching their every move. The song’s chorus contains maybe the most direct punk-rock sentiment on our new album: ‘Inside the mansions, let’s put cameras there too!'”

If this is a sign of what we can expect from their forthcoming album, it is a good one, indeed.
