Music Review: Tension Splash’s EP Blur – Release date May 30, 2025
Hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, alt rockers Tension Splash released a brand new EP entitled “Blur” on May 30th via Harmless Dosage Records.
Even with just 4 songs, the band manages to pack almost 30 minutes of music into the project, filling every second with fuzzy, grungey, hard-nosed rock.
Tension Splash wastes no time bringing the heat; the record’s first song, “Willing”, comes out of the gate with punishing intentions. No buildup, no misdirection, nothing; just a pure wall of sound. From there, the song settles nicely into its groove, with tasteful guitar leads serving as the cherry on top.
With a clean, mellow intro, “Firefly” allows the listener to take a breather from the energy of the previous track-but not for long, as a sudden and rapid volume swell brings the listener out of the intro and right back to the high energy levels where the EP started.
“Scared” is the EP’s most quiet song, but the shift in dynamics makes the record feel more diverse and complete, and even though it is not as energetic, its place in the record is entirely necessary.
Finally, the EP wraps up with the two-part song “7:45 AM/Breathe”. Clocking in at over ten minutes, the song is a marathon, but rewards the listeners patience with an extended jam that is followed by Soundgarden-esque riffs and pulses.
While the music of Tension Splash draws from many of the great bands of decades past, they have also managed to cut out their own sound within their influences, and they used that combination to churn out a strong, robust record.
