Review: Yenkee – Irish Golf – Release date: October 25, 2024
No, Yenkee is not an American artist, he is an Irishman from Cork, now residing and working in London, and he just released his debut album ‘Night Golf.’
Listening to the album, you get a feel that Yenkee loves all things modern pop, and not just any pop, but the kind that musically picks up things from anything that sounds good and makes the listeners sharpen their ears, and not just for his sophisticated, often intricate melodies.
Yenkee also pays equal attention to his lyrics, combining lighter themes, but also some ‘heavier’ ones – from financial struggles to underachieving, something you just might miss if you concentrate on Yenkees pop-perfect songs themselves.
“I only want people to feel joy. One of my main aims is to make people laugh while conveying something sincere”, he says, explaining his approach.
And it all works so well, also taking into consideration the fact that he mostly recorded the album himself in various makeshift setups, with only additional touchups with other producers.
An excellent introduction that raises the bar high for his upcoming projects.
