REVIEW: BARD – Angels Got His Back – Release date, September 4, 2024
BARD might be from New Jersey, but their musical thoughts run down South and out West, as they amply show us on their latest album ‘Angels Got His Back.’
The band’s sound includes everything from southern rock and countrified soul to funk and bluesy rock, all mixed up here in neat, detailed and expertly sung and played packages.
BARD formed in 2017 by college friends Jamie Pagliaro (acoustic guitar, lead vocals) and Michael Schreiber (keyboard, organ, vocals), who had lost touch for two decades. The lineup grew to include (drums, percussion, vocals), each bringing his own unique guitar, vocals) and Dave Menez (bass guitar, vocals), Mike Potenza (electric guitar, vocals) and David Kolk (drums, percussion, vocals) each bringing his own unique musical sensibilities.
Yet those individual sensibilities seem to blend so well on this album, covering a wide musical ground, from Van Morrison, via The Doobie Brothers to Marvin Gaye, and it all has BARD’s individual touch throughout.
