ROCK AT NIGHT PREMIERE – WEIMAR’s “Faded Queen of the Night” – Worldwide release on September 29, 2023
A musical fusion of Spanish flamenco and Arabian folk, Faded Queen Of The Night takes its inspiration from real-life tales of the dark side of Hollywood. The lyrics tell the tale of a middle-aged Hollywood icon, past the prime of her career, desperately struggling to maintain her image and appeal in the eyes of the public, clutching onto what remains of her career while the effects of a behind-the-scenes lifestyle of debauchery, promiscuity and substance abuse catch up on her. Yet despite the narcissism and depraved lifestyle of the title character, the real aggressor here is the Hollywood star system and its practice of discarding female stars once they are past a certain age, its pressure on actresses to maintain ‘sex appeal’ in the public eye, and the severe destruction and mental health collapse caused by this practice.
The video reflects the song’s subject matter and musical style by depicting a montage of scenes from the Hollywood high life of the title character juxtaposed against her subsequent descent into substance abuse and self-destruction, footage of Arabian belly dancers symbolizing the exotic and mysterious allure of the fading movie star. The video also pays homage to the 1983 made-for-TV movie The Sins Of Dorian Gray, an update of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture Of Dorian Gray that turned the title character into a female glamour model whose Hollywood screen test ages in her place.
This is the 10th video in the Dancing On A Volcano series from Weimar. The final two will be premiered in November, following which the whole album will be online in visual form as Dancing On A Volcano: The Movie.
