Review: David Beck’s album – Bloom & Fade -Release date: October 7, 2022
Yes, we all have those moments when we need some sophisticated, harmony-laden country-infused rock. You can call it soft rock, late night grooves or something else, but there is always time and space for it, particularly if it backed by some excellent songwriting, vocals and seasoned musical backing.
Coming up with such an album is Texas singer-songwriter David Beck with his lates album ‘Bloom & Fade.’
From his days as co-frontman of the dynamic and electrifying alt-country outfit Sons of Fathers to his Tex-Mex border-blending Tejano crew David Beck’s Tejano Weekend, Beck’s diverse range and imaginative style have been prevailing characteristics.
Combining the classic Texas storytelling embodied in the legendary Townes Van Zandt and combining it with the California country rock grooves of The Byrds in their country phase as well as The Eagles, Beck’s introspective lyrics and infectious melodies feel right at home on a burgeoning San Antonio boardwalk as they do a crowded honkytonk night, or riveting summer festival stage, as his PR amply states.
Throughout the album, Beck shows excellent songwriting and even when he picks up the pace (“Miner’s Song”) it is that prevailing late-night atmosphere that presents a great vehicle for his storytelling capabilities, like on the “Crooked Talk” or “The Plan.”
Wherever he goes on ‘Bloom & Fade,’ Beck has come up with an excellent Americana/rock combination.
