Review: Donnie Vie – Beautiful Things – Release date: July 31, 2026
We’re dealing with two tricky things in music here – going solo after quite a successful band career and reissues.
The first can be a double-edged sword for artists – you either want to put your solo music forward because you thing it is got the worth to be on its own, or it could be a vanity/indulgence project that can easily sink your future career.
Same thing with reissues – you either pick the right thing to seek old and new ears, or the original wasn’t worth the first issue or doesn’t stand the test of time after all.
Former Enuff Z’nuff leader Donnie Vie had a great run with the band for decades now, but at some point decided to go on his own with a series of releases under his name. Maybe those solo releases didn’t get the attention Donnie thought they deserved, so he decided to pick what he thought deserved to be at a public test again, reissuing his ‘Beautiful Things.’
Turns out he did the right thing. At the time when any (good) power/melodic pop/rock is getting a sort of a resurrection, these 12 songs withstand the test of time and sound as fresh and new as when Vie released them the first time around. Some great songwriting and melodies to boot, with the summertime being exactly the right time for this kind of stuff.
