Single Review: Wooden Overcoat – Home – Release dare: March 24, 2026
When you live in place that is subject to a lot of rainfall, and Portland, Oregon seems to fall within that category, as a musician you just might need to take a lot of trips, if not physical ones, than those of a more mental, dreamy ones. Yet they have to be really good ones, the ones that can relate to any listener anywhere.
Portland, Oregon songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brant Hajek, who operates under the moniker of Wooden Overcoat (now a four-piece band) has done exactly that on the band’s single simply titled ‘Home,” as an introduction to the band’s forthcoming debut EP “Hello Sunbeam.” Hajek and co. dubbed their style here as ‘gooey haze” as a way to describe their quite trippy combination of late sixties folk psych and early nineties shoegaze. Works all the way.
