Platinum-charting Canadian indie-folk band The Strumbellas brought their Into Dust Tour to Detroit’s historic Saint Andrew’s Hall on March 21, 2026, in support of their latest EP, Burning Bridges Into Dust. The Ontario natives received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the Motor City, with the venue filling to capacity for a standing-room-only show that felt both celebratory and deeply communal.

From the moment the band stepped onstage, lead singer and guitarist Jimmy Chauveau set a tone of connection and camaraderie. “Detroit, it is so great to see you!” he greeted the crowd. “Whatever madness is happening outside of these walls, for the next 85 minutes, you guys have our back and we have your back.” The band launched immediately into the energetic opener “Hanging Out in My Head,” a newer track from their recent EP.

Chauveau’s easy rapport with the audience continued throughout the evening. He invited everyone to set aside the outside world for a while, reinforcing the night’s spirit of shared escape and togetherness. That invitation was warmly accepted, especially during the rousing sing-along of “Young & Wild,” where Chauveau energetically jumped on and off a stage box, leaning the microphone toward the crowd to amplify their voices.

The band’s musical chemistry shone brightly. Guitarists Chauveau and Jon Hembrey traded harmonies on the fan favorite “Shovels & Dirt,” while keys player David Ritter seamlessly transitioned from piano to banjo, adding rich layers to the sound. Violinist Isabel Ritchie’s expressive playing and vocals brought additional warmth and depth to the arrangements. The group also delivered a spirited cover of Wings’ classic “Band on the Run,” and later offered an intimate duet of “Running Out of Time,” with Chauveau and Ritter performing while the rest of the band took a brief pause.

The 20-song set blended fresh material from Burning Bridges Into Dust with beloved older tracks, creating an indie-rock party atmosphere that never lost its heartfelt core. The evening culminated with the band’s massive 2016 hit “Spirits,” as Chauveau switched to acoustic guitar for the unforgettable chorus: “I got guns in my head and they won’t go / Spirits in my head and they won’t go.” The crowd sang every word back with full-throated joy.

Even in a packed house, the performance retained an intimate, feel-good quality. The band’s palpable camaraderie and high-energy yet sincere delivery turned the concert into a genuine communal experience—one that left attendees energized, uplifted, and hoping for an encore that could have gone on much longer.

The Strumbellas delivered exactly what fans have come to love: thoughtful songcraft, infectious melodies, and a generous, welcoming spirit. This was a night Detroit won’t soon forget. Highly recommended.
