Review: Robin Taylor Zander – All She Wrote – Release date August 20, 2025

Power pop and rock fans in general fans are surely familiar with Robin Taylor Zander, a full-time member of Cheap Trick, a band that has rightfully making a name for itself for decades now. So, is it time for Zander to make some music of his own?

Judging by “All She Wrote,” his latest single released as a prequel to his upcoming solo album (October 17), he definitely should! After all, Zander is a multi-instrumentalist and excellent vocalist who is adept on guitar, bass, drums, and backing vocals, and here he goes all-out by himself, co-produced with rock legend Jack Douglas (Aerosmith, John Lennon, Cheap Trick). It was also mixed by Douglas and renowned engineer Jay Messina (Kiss, Peter Frampton).

So what do we get here? A brilliant, breezy, very summery pop rock, with an excellent melody washed all over in Zander’s vocal harmonies. Zander brings it all here – from The Beatles-like power pop through everything that was great about 80’s new wave and 90’s alternative rock.

“The song ‘All She Wrote” reflects on the struggle of communication while also acknowledging that sometimes, no amount of sincerity can bridge the gap between one another,” Zander explains. “The recurring theme of ‘maybe that’s all she wrote’ describes that universal melancholy feeling of lost connections, and the hope to create new ones some day that mean just as much as the lost ones.”

If this is what we can expect from Zander’s upcoming solo album, we are in for quite a treat!
