Review: In Transmission’s Single/Video “Catching Up” – Release date July 18, 2025

Southern California post-rock group In Transmission released their EP “Betterment” on August 15. The album’s first track, “Catching Up”, was accompanied by a music video.

The song possesses an unmistakable hard rock edge, but takes a step further by incorporating atmospheric, fluid production choices. The way the song blends raw energy with droning, spacey sounds creates a unique sonic experience.

The sounds of the song have a mutually beneficial relationship with the subject matter, which touches on the matter of ignorance. The lyrics are an intense factor within their own right, and when paired with the music, establish a hard nosed, emotional concept.

The video is the cherry on top of this mountain of a song. It depicts the band and their equipment, facing outward in a circle, performing the song. The variety of angles, the quick changes between them, and the use of colors help unleash the message of the song onto the watcher. It is a nice touch, and adds yet another layer of intensity to the song.

With “Catching Up”, In Transmission craft a tight and memorable song that makes their status as creative veterans clear.
