New Single Release: “She’s a Star”

Forming about ten years ago, Glitter Wizard plays a unique brand of freak rock that Julian Cope once described as “unashamedly glamorous hard rock.” They call their fans “Glitterati” and their sound is best described as a melange of even more genres: punk, progressive, metal and indie along with the glam. Glitter Wizard were raised on punk and mix screaming riffs with a high-octane stage show full of sequins, headbanging, and a sonic attack that’ll leave you dazed and ready for the next hit. As a precursor to their next 6 track EP release “Kiss the Boot” on March 7th, California’s own glam rock band does a flashback to the 70’s and 80’s with their new single, “She’s a Star” on Kitten Robot Records.
“There was nothing glamorous about 2020. NOTHING,” says bassist Kandi Moon about the hiatus in the band’s creativity during the pandemic. Turning the isolation to their advantage, they focused on making the best record they could. ”This was the first time the band had ample time to try things out with pre-production demos so a lot of experimentation with song writing and different guitar/synth leads came about.”
“This song involved reconstructive surgery and a lesson in band communication,” continues Kandi. While all the right elements were there in the songwriting and musicianship, the band discovered the only thing that was missing was the hook. Vocalist Wendy Stonehenge took the rehearsal recording home and returned with a new version of the song. As the song took on its final form, the band felt they were on the right track. “… Sometimes not communicating properly can lead to some cool results …sometimes.”
About the song, Rock at Night says:
“High vibe and super amped, this single made me think of the big hair and glitter bands of the 70’s, heavy on the drums and guitar laden with hints of intricate Deep Purple guitar work that borders on classical and art rock. This song is fast tempo with great hooks and vocals. Definitely lighters up for this one!“

Anita grew up in a rock and roll radio station that her father owned and has a musical family. Spent a few years singing back up. Now sings in the shower! She is a USAF veteran and was elected to local office and worked as staff on three presidential campaigns as a Social Media and Virtual Outreach expert. Plays a variety of musical instruments including ukulele and she loves drum circles. Her favorite music genres are all of them--Alternative to Zydeco. Promotes bands and independent artists through ANITA STEWART PROMOTIONS. She also brought SOFAR SOUNDS to Tampa. When she is not writing, she is knitting, painting, attending concerts and live music jams and exploring nature with her camera. She has recently retired but no rocking chair for her!
