Live Review: Metal Goddess Show – Shadow the Earth, Level the Planet, The Dev, and Red Calling – Haven Lounge, Winter Park, Florida-April 23, 2022

Metal Goddess was another fantastic show at the Haven Lounge in Winter Park, Florida. For the second time, the Haven Lounge has hosted these four female fronted bands. The first show “Women That Rock” held August 14, 2021, with talk amongst the bands of having another female-fronted show in the future. If you missed this one, you may have another chance to see it again.

Shadow The Earth kicked it off with a metal goddess, vocalist Nadira Najm-Cary, bringing the show to life with her high energy vocals and growling screams. Adding something very different from what we are used to seeing in the metal scene. This once four piece is now a five piece with the recent addition of Torge Rempe on the cello. Speaking weeks before the show with guitarist Jesse Stambaugh, I was a little unsure of what to expect. He was right; the cello was a very welcome addition to the sound.

Level The Planet from Tampa, Florida, brought their heavy alternative rock sound with them to Orlando and tore the roof off the house. If covering the floor with rose petals and handing out roses to a few audience members wasn’t enough, vocalist Sheenah Singh brought Nadira Najm-Cary of Shadow The Earth and Jessica Pons of Red Calling on stage for a very special treat. The trio did a tribute to Stevie Nicks with Edge Of Seventeen. Finishing the set guitarist Adam Riewold brought out his trusty ole two string shoebox guitar and gave everyone a riff they will not soon forget.

Orlando’s own, The Dev took the stage the way any band should, like they owned it. From live streaming around the world to playing stages at large festivals to smaller venues, The Dev brings their high crowd drawing energy every time. The Queen of the damned herself, Nikollaj Lleshi, with her high powering vocals, is a voice you will not want to miss out on. Interacting with their fans from the stage and getting down and walking within the crowd brings a unique atmosphere to the room.

Red Calling is another prominent band out of Tampa, Florida. Front woman Jessica Pons with her rich sounding guitar playing and driving vocals helps set her apart in the music industry. In 2014, Red Calling released their first EP “Break The Silence” and March 2016 released their first full length self titled studio album. During the covid pandemic, the band started working on and released their latest single “Torture”.
