Interview: Taylor Roberts of Riding With Killers – Recorded September 10, 2024
Rock At Night had the pleasure of seeing Detroit-based band Riding With Killers (RWK) perform at the recent Arts Beats & Eats Festival in Royal Oak, Michigan. The band is sensational live, and the album Full Circle is a must-hear for fans of alternative rock bands like Sleep Theory and Boston Manor. Riding With Killers is comprised of Taylor Roberts (guitar/vocals), Jed Thibeault (drums), and Kris Kress (bass), although at the festival, bassist James Lascu (ex-Wilson) filled in for Kress. When Roberts isn’t writing music with the band, he is the guitarist in the Ann Arbor band Taproot.
Roberts is a person with a lot to say. His authenticity and charisma shine through as he discusses his music and life experiences with candor. Rock At Night normally airs podcast interviews with inserted band songs that span approximately 30 minutes. We decided to air this interview as Part 1 and will soon publish Part 2, which expands on his recording experience in Sweden with renowned sound engineer Jakob Hermann, the Blue Ridge Festival, Mississippi blues artists, a spooky encounter, and more.
In this interview, Taylor Roberts discusses the inspiration (e.g., dementia, corporate culture) behind songs in Riding With Killer’s album Full Circle discovering his voice, learning to be a frontperson and more.
