Review: Kings County’s single/video – “The Beautiful People” – Release date May 9, 2025

Recreating a classic rock tune in your own musical style is something all rock bands have gone through. That includes Orlando, FL’s Kings County, which has recently taken on a track that is etched in the lore of rock and roll. With their cover of Marilyn Manson’s “The Beautiful People,” Kings County maintains the power drive of the original while putting their own nuances to the tune.
In their video for “The Beautiful People” (an examination and explanation of works from philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche), Kings County delivers a powerful shot to their listeners while also removing a little of the “sinister” edge that marked Marilyn Manson’s original version. The audio engineering of the track is superb, crisp, and the vocals are clear. Oh, there are still touches of grimness to the Kings County version of “The Beautiful People,” but they are fleeting while the band, led by vocalist/bassist Rob Dexter, hammer out the song with their power rock approach.
Part of the reason for doing cover songs is to offer something to listeners that they are familiar with while demonstrating your talents. Kings County does this exceptionally well with their cover of “The Beautiful People” (they also have a version of New Order’s “Blue Monday” worth a listen), but do stick around to hear their excellent original work. It can all be found by visiting Kings County’s website (where you can learn more about the band), or you can hear the cover of “The Beautiful People” by heading directly to YouTube or see the video below, which is vibrant yet dark in undertone:
