It’s hard to say goodbye to a band that has been around for nearly 30 years—and played such a huge role in the lives of kids who grew up in the ‘90s and early 2000s. On Friday night at GLC Live @ 20 Monroe, Grand Rapids, Sum 41 was as great as ever. Filled with the power of youth, they came out with as much energy as if they were all 16 again.

Fans came from all over to see this legendary band on the final tour. They were whipped into a frenzy with classics such as “Fat Lip” and “Still Waiting” and brought some to tears during “So Long Goodbye.” I for one was one of those that was brought to tears. I, as well as many in attendance, had grown up with the band’s music.

Sum 41 played all of the band’s greatest hits and earliest hits with a show that lasted nearly 2 hours. I was transported back to my skate park days of carrying a CD player and feeling the wind whip across my face.

As the night progressed we experienced the band’s song evolution from the past to the present. I’m still in awe and a bit sad to see them go but so glad they are doing this last tour. If you have the chance to see them on this final tour, which ends in 2025, I would. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience—and you won’t regret missing this awesome experience.
