Review: The Modbeats’ single “Fairweather Friends” – Release date November 14, 2024
“Fairweather Friends” was written, composed, and produced by lead singer Philip Dunn and was influenced by the Beatles’ 1966 sound. Inspired by a sunny day in college, he felt moved to write a catchy tune with heavy guitar, dynamic vocals, and harmonies paralleling those of the Beatles that put you right back into the classic age of 1960s rock. The song explores the ideas of friendship and those friendships that may be short-lived but are a good time, although Dunn believes the lyrics are up to the listener’s interpretation.
Based in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, The Modbeats is a four-piece rock n’ roll band consisting of Philip Dunn (vocals, guitar), Joe Mandia (guitar), Scott Matison (bass), and Fizz (drums). They are a blend of the classic sounds of 1950s rock with the mod style of 1960s London. The band debuted in June 2024 with their single “Ballad of a Starving Artist.” Formed in late 2023, The Modbeats name symbolizes the confluence of mod and modernist stylings with the pure sonic bliss and beat of rock n’ roll music.
Rock At Night Says: Just the name alone caught our attention. We always are intrigued when young guys are enamored with retro sounds of the 60s. “Fairweather Friend” has it all–the harmonies, lead guitar, and rock-pop feel of the British Invasion era. Gimme some more!
