Review: Sluka’s single “Sunset Screamer” – Release date: April 30, 2024

Covering heavy themes in rock music is no novelty, it is just a matter of how well you do it.

San Diego’s Sluka (first name Christopher) seems to be an artist who doesn’t mince words, nor does he like his rock to be on the simpler side. It is a streak running through his career way back since 1988, when he created his first band.

Now with his new single ‘Sunset Screamer,’ he has decided to tackle the heavy theme of authoritarian, dictatorial leaders who are cropping up all over. He does that with a musical background of something that could be dubbed as prog pop, akin to the likes of Pink Floyd and Radiohead, releasing the single (from his upcoming album ‘Cautionary Yell’) on the day Hitler committed suicide and its video on May 8, 2024, a day before the anniversary World War II ended.

Produced by the Grammy award winner Alan Sanderson (produced Fiona Apple, Weezer, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Elvis Costello, and many more), it is a reminder that dictatorial types are still lurking in our midst. It should make us think and listen.
