The Ar-Kaics

Review: The Ar-Kaics – See the World on Fire – Release date May 3, 2024

Dystopian themes in rock, have been there since rock music got ‘serious’ back in the late sixties, Love’s ‘Forever Changes’ being a prime example.

Currently, yet another band that transformed its music from its garage/punk origins into a more psych-like music covering such dark themes. It is Virginia’s Ar-Kaics, and that transformation took them a bit to realize, as ‘See The World on Fire’ is their first album in six years.

Yet, with all the dark themes on the album, the four guys that go just by their first names, Johnny, Jake, Kevin & Tim, show that you can keep your rowdy musical roots, expand and refine them and combine them with a bit of seriousness to create music that is both engaging and listenable in every respect. Enriched garage psych for thinkers, if you will.
