OMD Release Latest Track & Video ‘Kleptocracy’ – And It’s Amazing

Video/Single Review

Ahead of their much anticipated UK tour, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) release latest track ‘Kleptocracy’ – taken from their impeccable UK Top 2-charting studio album Bauhaus Staircase, out now on 100% Records.Mixed by the album’s main external influence, rock producer David Watts (The Reytons’s recent #1 album), the clattering, hectic ‘Kleptocracy’ is OMD’s greatest straight-up protest song – its chewy discourse wrapped in an absolute earworm. Watch here. Kleptocracy will also be released on limited edition 7”, 12” and CD singles out 22nd March, available for purchase here.

Rock At Night says: Man, we were speechless after watching OMD’s video for “Kleptocracy.”  It’s the best we’ve seen in years. It features a sci-fi feel with animated robotic space creatures and running wolves in hypnotic colors. The movement of the robots is fluid as they perform the song ,before the wolves meet up with them. The song itself takes me back to our New Wave days–very electronic with vocals slightly enhanced by a vocoder. The message is spot-on, mentioning the “paid for” politicians in all the super power countries, the assassination of journalist Khashoggi, and the money sliding to “Deutsche Bank undetected.” Absolutely brilliant!

Andy McCluskey says; “This is the most political song that we have ever recorded. The band believes that democracy is the only legitimate way to balance different opinions and create a functioning representative government. Sadly, we are living through times that see us ruled by thieves and flagrant liars. Democracy has been subverted by Kleptocracy.”The album, which charted at #2 in the UK, arrived with aplomb as the band’s new music exploded over the airwaves, and saw exquisite performances on BBC’s Later…with Jools Holland (watch here). The record was also met with critical acclaim – Clash describing it as ‘a stellar return’, MOJO declaring the band as ‘thriving’, and Classic Pop simply labelling the album as ‘sublime’.

It doesn’t matter who you voted forThey bought the man that you electedSelling liberty and martial lawInstalled the one that you rejectedAnd all the presidents and kings and queensThe revolution had ejectedStole the money through the backroom doorTo Deutsche Bank undetected
And the Kremlin and the KGBUnder golden bed disinfectedGot the gossip on the GOPAnd the candidate they selected
Saudi money over Central ParkKhashoggi’s body got dissectedWith dirty slogans on the red bus doorThe narcissist stole the exit
It doesn’t matter who you voted forThey bought the man that you electedSelling liberty and martial lawInstalled the one that you rejectedAnd all the presidents and kings and queensThe revolution had ejectedStole the money through the backroom doorTo Deutsche Bank undetected
