Review: Sugar Tradition – More Sugar-Release Date: October 12, 2023

They always loved their garage rock over in Detroit, and it seems that love is as strong as it was in the times of MC5 and Iggy Pop 7 The Stooges, as that city’s Sugar Tradition are here to prove with their latest 6-song offering ‘More Sugar.’

Those six songs are nothing less that relentless, messy, but at the same time slick garage rockers that just don’t let you stand (or sit) still at any point. No wonder that this trio of Antonio Keka (guitar/vocals), Kevin Irwin (drums), and Arlo Betley (bass) are said to be a full force of nature live, as they just came fresh of a tour with the Detroit Cobras.

They seem to have kept that live raw tradition and transferred it into studio, as this is even their vinyl debut. and they have actually been able to cram those six songs into 14 minutes of true, controlled mayhem, that particularly burst out on ‘Don’t Leave Me.’

Give these guys more power, they will return it six-fold.
