Single Review: The Cynz – “Narrow Hips”-Release date October 7, 2022
If you ever wondered where all those eighties rock bands have gone that defied categories with their sound, combining everything from garage, punk, power pop, and whatnot. Then, wonder no more since New Jersey’s The Cynz are here, and their single ‘Narrow Hips’ proves it all.
Formed in 2011 around the songwriting talents of poet Cyndi Dawson (vocals) and Henry Seiz (guitar/vocals), they have been a staple on Manhattan’s Lower East Side for over a decade but have toured as far as Sweden. How they’ve escaped big record labels is quite a mystery.
On the single, as elsewhere in their music, The Cynz are steeped in classic NYC influences like The Ramones, Dead Boys, Alice Cooper, and Patti Smith. And all that to the best effect on ‘Narrow Hips.’
