THE REVOLUTION

The iconic band The Brian Jonestown Massacre recently announced upcoming tour dates in Europe after completing an outstanding tour in the United States and performing at Levitation France. It could be a possibility that most bands would get burnt out right? But this is BJM- the kings of the underground, known for doing massive amounts of shows and putting out more music than anyone I know. Later this summer they will be releasing their 19th album āFire Doesnāt Grow On Treesā and us at Rock at Night are totally geeked for this release after a 3-year break, but the band is back in action and ready to ROCK. BJM always had that go big or go home type of ambition that I admire. The opening song is a tune called āThe Realā Anton created after a brief creative stand still.
āAll of a sudden, I just heard something,ā Anton said. āAnd then it just didnāt stop. We tracked a whole song every single day for 70 days in a row.ā
He also says he knew āThe Realā had to be the first song when he wrote the lyric, āFight the beast until it dies, raise your sword up to the sky.ā
āThat line is like Fantasyland! Itās the little kid in me, full on St. George shit. Itās as much a declaration of anything that I could ever muster. A lot of the album is about affirmation by just living. Existentially, this time period has felt pretty dark, so itās about fighting the good fight. Iām singing to empower other people. First of all, Iām getting whatever I need out of it, but I can see it as something other people can identify with.ā ā via BJM Instagram

āTHE REALā MUSIC VIDEO
By Wonder Muddle
I really dig the āgrindhouseā aesthetic of this music video and its sweet sonic sound that reminds me of bands from the 60s with hints of lush 90s shoegaze.
āIt was one of my favorites to record.ā Uri tells Rock At Night.
