Single and Video: “Shiver”

Release Date: June 25, 2021

Micky James is an up and coming artist, well known in NYC and Philadelphia for his live shows. He previously cut his teeth with the band the Karma Killers. While still young, he found his way to music through an old videotape of the Beatles performing on the Ed Sullivan Show. He has received acclaim from the likes of Billboard, Live Nation’s Ones to Watch, Alt Press, Sirius XM as well as being featured on multiple Spotify playlists including New Music Friday US.

Rock at Night says: “This single is stylin’ with a pop, rock, glam rock, psychedelia sound along with fast tempo lyrics about a relationship going wrong. The song is reminiscent of the vocals and performances of Luke Spiller (the Struts), David Bowie, Jack White, Matty Healy (the 1975) and even Borns (with his hit “Electric Love”) all blended together. It is full of hooks, Beatle-esque chord changes, cool back-beats and opportunities to sing along–the lyrics definitely got stuck in my brain after the second listen.

James is full of emo regarding isolation, loss, depression and mental illness themes and how they relate to relationships. The song itself is a a blending of opposites with despairing lyrics and a crazy and upbeat melody. In the video, the imagery follows this concept and is bright, colorful and fun. Absolutely love his stage presence! On my list to see live!

James is taking his vision of music and spinning it into a reality by taking elements from timeless genres and creating something new; “I wanted to take pieces of nostalgia and give it a contemporary twist,” explains James. Watch this up and coming artist explode on the scene really soon!
