PREMIERE of Kings County’s video “I Ran”
Orlando-based rock band Kings County has been busy during the COVID “lockdown” year working with Grammy Award winning Producer/Engineer Chuck Alkazian (Pop Evil, Soundgarden, Tantric) at legendary Pearl Sound Studios (Asking Alexandria, Eminem, Filter). The band just released their stellar version of Flock of Seagulls “I Ran”–and now, the long-awaited video is here–TODAY! In true 80s fashion, the video hearkens to the days of MTV, leather chaps, and teased up hair.
What inspired recording the song “I Ran”?
Kings County started off as a cover band on Long Island, New York so we were pretty familiar with different genres of music. We have always been fans of 80’s music and it’s amazing how the songs from back then are still as prevalent and popular today, even with the younger generation. Playing covers was a great way to play in front of a lot of people and expose them to you original music.
We always made sure we had at least one original in each set and before long people would start to request your original songs. The band always wanted to remake a cover but picking a tune took some time.We were looking for something that was driving and upbeat and converted well to rock. The song also had to be something we felt we could do justice to. “I Ran” was just that song so we figured we’d take a leap and record it.

The video really has an 80’s feel. Is that what the band was aiming for?
When we first sat down with our director Adam Arnali to discuss the upcoming video shoot we had to decide on a direction. Adam thought it would be a great idea to pull some of the look from the original A Flock of Seagulls video into ours so people who are familiar with the original would instantly connect to it but with a modern twist. We wanted the theme of it to be darker so Adam expanded on the look of the girl where she morphs into an evil version of herself. We think it’s a great mixture of the classic look of the girl with a modern look and sound of the band.
Where was the video shot? Anything newsworthy about the making of the video or recording the song?
The video was shot in both Florida and California. All the footage of the band was filmed in Orlando on a sound stage in front of a green screen. All of the cut always with the girl were filmed in California. The Director is based in LA so it was easier and cost effective to build the set there and fly to Florida to capture the band footage.
Along with a great video you need awesome audio. We had the opportunity to record with producer Chuck Alkazian at Pearl Sound Studios in Michigan. Chuck was able to pull out some great ideas on how to approach the song making it modern sounding while keeping some of the signature “I Ran” sounds intact.
