Venue: Jannus Live, St. Petersburg, Florida–November 12, 2016–Elle King on the “Ministry Tour” with Paul Cauthen
Rock At Night loves Elle King and we try to follow her around the country whenever we can. She is sassy, dynamic, talented, funny, and confident–definitely she is an All-American woman! Her voice is sexy and raspy and her style cannot be pigeon-holed. She really has a huge, charismatic stage presence and quite a following. Elle King, is a prolific songwriter and a heroine for young and assertive women. The hits “X’s and O’s” and “American Sweetheart” soared through the charts during the last year and her constant touring has made her name known everywhere.
It was a packed house with mostly a female audience at Jannus Live. Paul Cauthen, a country artist from Austin, Texas and his amazing band opened the show. Paul’s voice was deep, smooth and soul–crooning country, a cross between Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison. His latest album “My Gospel” is a country crossover mix of many genres and his stage presence was commanding and definitely got the crowd moving.
Elle King took the stage and proclaimed with a blustery air that she was “hammered” and proceeded to tear the house down with every song from the “Love Stuff” album. As a multi-instrumentalist, she could easily switch between guitar and banjo while performing her songs.
Since Elle King is engaged and marrying next year, she has decided to celebrate love at every tour destination. During the performance, she “married” a couple onstage as she is also a legal minister. The couple performed a dance while being serenaded by the band.
Overall, it was a remarkable night of great music, raunchy humor (one expects a ton of Eff bombs thrown with Elle), and tons of fun! Elle King never ceases to amaze during her live performances.
