You would have to be living under a rock to not know the ukulele has made a resurgence into popular music again. I know. What comes around, goes around. Popular back in the 1920s, then the 1950s and 1960s, the most recent wave has created a lot of aficionados of all ages. The Tampa Bay Ukulele Society or TBUS is having its annual ukulele weekend November 7th-9th. At the convention, which is being held at the Holiday Inn-St. Petersburg North in Clearwater, Florida, uke lovers will converge to partake in open mike sessions, a luau, and instructional workshops with well-known ukulele “celebs”. A concert will be held on Saturday night with special guests such as Victoria Vox, Li’l Rev, Narciso Lobo, Mike “Uncle Elvis” Hind, and many more. Although the tickets were sold out for the event weekend on July 1st at lightning speed (ukers waited until midnight on June 30th to hit the ticket sale button and pay with PayPal) the Friday night event is open to the public. So, if you are interested in hearing a concert, an open mike or impromptu jam session, or visit one of the vendor booths, here is your chance. You might just end up purchasing a ukulele and joining the fever!
