Live Review: War on Women with Burntmill Ghosts – House of Independents, Asbury Park, New Jersey-May 14, 2022

War on Women performed at the House of Independents in the historical Ashbury Park, New Jersey on may 14th. It was a perfect spot for a Punk Rock night–and Rock at Night was present to experience the show.
The evening started with a local band Burntmill Ghosts and they did a good job to set the mood. Next on stage, was the War on Women, and what a performance it was! From the first song till the last, the audience was grooving with the music. Shawna Potter is a burst of energy and the energy is contagious to the spectators. She danced, jumped, and head-banged throughout the performance – an absolutely spectacular stage presence. She even allowed two kids to get on the stage and dance to the songs.

Besides Shawna, Brooks Harlan, and Jennifer Vito performed on guitar, Suzanne Werner on the bass, and Dave Cavalier on the drums. All of the band was spot on. The setlist included songs like – ‘Lone Wolves’, ‘Silence is the Gift’, ‘Aqua Tofana’, and my favorite of the lot ‘White Lies’. All the songs are pure examples of how Punk Rock should be and the best part is the lyrics which are relevant, political, and talk about issues in the society that needs to be pointed out and addressed. So kudos to WoW to be able to constantly create music that has an impact.
Overall, it was a great show and the only downside was that Good Riddance could not perform because one of the band members tested positive for Covid right before the show. We wish him a speedy recovery.
