The right way to describe The Damn Truth is “when Hippies meet Hard Rock”. The Damn Truth is a band from Montreal consisting of Lee-la Baum (lead vocals/guitar), Tom Shemer (lead guitar/vocals), PY Letellier (bass/vocals), and Dave Traina (drums/vocals). They have been playing for the last 9 years with concerts in the US, Canada, and Europe. They have opened for some of the big-shots like – ZZ Top, the Sheepdogs, Styx, and Rival Sons.
The Damn Truth’s third album Now or Nowhere will be released on May 7th on all the major platforms. Six tracks of the album, including the single “This Is Who We Are Now”, were produced by legendary Grammy Award-winning record producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, The Cult, David Lee Roth, The Offspring) at Bryan Adams’ recording studio “The Warehouse”in Vancouver.
I had a chance to listen to the song “This Is Who We Are Now”. The sound of the song has huge influences of the “Led Zeppelin”. I am in love with this sound. It is rare these days to hear such sound from the new bands. I have to mention the lead guitar in the middle of the song. Absolutely stunning. It is almost like something that can be used in a Hollywood Western flick. I found influences of the great Santana in the style of the lead guitar. The bass and the drum compliments the song perfectly. This what I call “the right amount of seasoning”.
This song was conceptualized during the band’s tour in the US and the lyrics talk about that “tour-life”. Finally, I have to mention the powerful riff. I mean everything about the song just works – it works perfectly together with all the elements.
