In these uncertain times many of us are searching for a form of escapism from the Groundhog Day existence of lockdown and social distancing.  The latest hauntingly atmospheric  offering from The Asteroid No. 4 provides a distraction to take us out of the day to day but not necessarily to a more comfortable place.

The song is Inspired by events  when the band encountered inclement weather on a European tour and ended up in a chalet in a small Swiss town on the Italian border.  Relationships with their  tour bus driver were strained. He was having “periodical meltdowns” and carried a knife the size of a machete around with him. The song was conceived while the band were trying to get to sleep in this surreal environment.  As lead vocalist and guitarist Scott Vitt explains – “It’s kind of our version of The Shining

It’s the band’s third single from the forthcoming Northern Songs’ album to be released later this Summer. “After the Glow” and “Northern Song” set the  bar high and “Swiss Mountain Myth” is another taster for what promises to be an intriguing release.  The song’s menacing lyrics are delivered with a restrained  vocal to the backdrop of spiralling guitars that create a tense atmospheric vibe.

The band have taken full control of the writing, playing, recording and mixing for the first time since the An Amazing Dream album of 2006 when they  developed their trademark sound.  It’s a formula that has produced three stand out  songs and leaves followers of the band fervently anticipating the forthcoming album release.

The Northern Songs’  album will be released later this Summer.
