Single Review – Faithless Town – What I’m Dreaming Of

Faithless Town

These are some tough times. People are fighting with not only an unknown virus but also with one another. I believe there is one cure that we all have within us – ‘Hope’. That is what Faithless Town is talking about in their new single ‘What I’m Dreaming Of’. This song was recorded in quarantine and people from different parts of the world contributed for a message of unity in a time of extreme polarization.

Faithless Town was formed in Atlanta and now based in Los Angeles. The band was funded by fans through a successful Kickstarter campaign and they released the first full-length album, American Refugee in 2012. The band exists both on East Coast and West Coast. The east coast members are – Gene Owens (lead vocals, guitar), Matthew Smith (guitar, backing vocals), Geoff Goodwin (keyboards), Tyler Sant (bass guitar), Padrick Handley (drums) and Kristine Handley (backing vocals, percussion). The west coast line up is – Gene Owens (lead vocals, guitar), Andy Meixner (guitar), David Walker (bass), and Thomas “Tommy” Zamorano (drums, backing vocals).

The song ‘What I’m Dreaming Of’ features not only the band members Gene Owens, Matthew Smith, Tyler Sant, but also guest musicians Darren Dodd (Drums), Mark Brown (B3 Organ), and Colombian composer Marcos Villalobos Rodriguez (String Arrangement). The song talks about hope, unity, and love – basically all the good things that our world needs right now. This song has influences from John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’, but it certainly takes a modern approach both in terms of music and lyrics. As I listened to the song I felt the influences of ‘The Beatles’ and ‘Oasis’. The song starts as an acoustic number and then as the other instruments kick in, it gives a really positive vibe throughout the song. The video is a light-hearted animation that goes well with the song’s message. The song is available on all major streaming platform and I recommend hearing this song especially in this time of uncertainty to keep our ‘Hopes’ alive.
