Moor Mother

“Did you see Moor Mother last night?”

“No, did I miss something?”

Moor Mother is the project of spoken word and noise artist Camae Aweyan from North Philadelphia. In 2017, with her debut album Fetish Bones, she quite rightly won worldwide acclaim from authoritative media such as The Wire. This linchpin from the American afrofuturistic scene brought an exceptionally uncut performance to Explore the North last week at Leeuwarden, The Netherlands.

Moor Mother

On stage Moor Mother had an impressive energy, sometimes she even left the stage to mingle with the audience. She addressed directly her honest and confronting texts to the people, sometimes straight, sometimes lovely.

The music on which Moor Mother slams her poems is a mix from punk and hardcore influences with heavy electronic beats and quite alienating soundscapes. The public was perplexed, Moor Mother performed on the first day of the festival, and was the talk of the town during the whole weekend. Luckily Rock At Night was there to shoot some pictures.
