Up and coming Festivals

Groovin the Moo is an annual one-day festival held in various (mostly) rural locations around Australia in April and May each year. This year’s line-up has been announced and it’s going to be huge. With a great selection of International and Australian bands, Groovin the Moo also gives opportunities for rising stars to hit the lime-light.

There’s something for everyone at Groovin The Moo. There will be Pop, Rap, Hip-Hop, Punk, Soul, Funk, Indie, Electronica and much more.

International artists coming our way for GTM include A$AP TWELVYY, BILLIE EILISH, COOLIO, DUCKWRTH, FLOSSTRADAMUS, SOFI TUKKER, SPINDERELLA & TOKiMONSTA from USA, AURORA From Norway, from Denmark and REJJIE SNOW from Ireland. Many of Australia’s finest will also appear. Here’s the full line-up.

WAFIA

22-year-old Norwegian singer AURORA has a captivating sound and monumental stage presence. She will be one to watch out for at GTM. 17-year-old BILLIE EILISH is fast becoming a global pop phenomenon. Billie’s debut EP has amassed more than 1.5 billion combined streams worldwide since its release in 2017. Grammy Award-winning recording artist COOLIO burst onto the world rap scene in 1995 with his now classic hit ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’. It will be fun to finally see this cool dude perform.

LA based creator DUCKWRTH breaks boundaries with his enthusiastic approach to making music and art; a frenetic positive force bouncing through rap, hip hop, soul, funk and electronic spheres. He’s an accomplished visual artist, campaigner for gender rights and has been compared to a millennial Prince and Jimi Hendrix.

Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, the duo better known as SOFI TUKKER gained quick success with their first single ‘Drinkee’ in 2016. I can’t wait to dance to their latest offerings.

Angie McMahon

The Australian acts I am most keen to see include Melbourne singer-songwriter ANGIE MCMAHON, who burst onto the airwaves and into listeners’ hearts last year with her charm and aural prowess. Her bold vocals and beautiful guitar licks are evident in high rotation tracks like ‘Slow Mover’ and ‘Missing Me’.

Crooked Colours

Since the release of their single ‘Flow’, Perth based indie-electro trio CROOKED COLOURS have been getting lots of attention. I first saw them at Splendour In The Grass last year and then again at Rhythm and Alps in New Zealand over New Year. I am very excited to see them on the GTM lineup.

DMAs

With a sound that throws back to the Manchester scene of the early ’90’s, Sydney trio DMA’S have a dedicated following across the globe. Their breakout single ‘Delete’ (2012), has been followed by hit after hit, with worldwide touring, major festival dates and accolades aplenty. I have followed them since their beginnings and can’t wait to see them again.

Hilltop Hoods

Adelaide’s own HILLTOP HOODS are one of the most celebrated and streamed hip-hop acts in the country. They have won nine ARIA awards and multiple triple j’s Hottest 100 successes. There’s always a party when da HOODS are in town.

Holy Holy

HOLY HOLY are one of Australia’s most revered indie rock bands, formed by musical stalwarts Timothy Carroll and Oscar Dawson. Renowned for their guitar-heavy riffs, their latest self-produced album ‘Faces’ takes a new direction with layers of vocal tracks, synth bass lines and beats. This is another band I have followed closely over the years.

NICK MURPHY (AKA Chet Faker) is a globetrotting Melbourne-bred singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. His achievements as Chet Faker include taking out the #1 spot in triple j’s Hottest 100 with ‘Talk Is Cheap’. He is one act I have been keen to see for years.

Thelma Plum

Award winning Indigenous Australian folk-pop artist THELMA PLUM drew a huge crowd recently at WOMADelaide. She has new music to share, which has been written in collaboration with Paul Kelly and Gang of Youth’s David Le’Aupepe.

The run of Groovin The Moo Festivals start real soon. If you’re interested in going along this year, grab your tickets quick. They’re selling like hotcakes. Bendigo, Maitland and Canberra are already sold out.
