Album Review: 20th Anniversary Reissue of Semisonic’s ‘Feeling Strangely Fine’

Album Review: Semisonic’s Feeling Strangely Fine–“Perfectly Wonderful Songs”

Released October 19, 2018 via UMC–CD, Vinyl

Sometimes I feel as if I have been on a treasure hunt with actual treasure when asked to review certain albums. It’s both exciting and exhilarating when that treasure turns out to be full of real gems, gloriously sparkly and looking as new as their first day.

Semisonics ‘Feeling strangely fine’ is 20 years old and has now been re-released with some added extras, but there are no wrinkles to see, no limp to notice, only perfectly wonderful songs that have carried the previous 20 years in a measured and adult way. Songs that share their love of life with us are always good in my book and this album bares all. Melodies that swagger, guitars that sing and an abundance of beautifully added noises, carry this album along on its own simple journey. A journey that feels timeless, relevant and altogether inspired. If music is art, then this album is the priceless kind and it stands ready for the next 20 years with a wink of its eye and nod of its head, knowingly brilliant, perfectly made.
