The Poisonville Songs Project‘s mission is to support independent singer/songwriters and bring trendy music to Zephyrhills, a bedroom community about fifty miles north of Tampa, Florida. Henri Wong originally had this project going in Wesley Chapel and then later moved it to Zephyrhills and by doing that brought a bit of worthwhile nightlife and entertainment to this small town.

The description of the Poisonville Songs Project from the Facebook page: “We are a original live music series dedicated to hosting independent local & national artists. Named after a Ronny Elliott song with his blessing, the series was originally conceived at the Sleep Inn Wesley Chapel Hotel in 2015. We host live shows & private live streaming sets with the bands that we love, friends who offer inspiration, and those who embrace art as a vital part of the human condition.”

The Hummingbirds

Sunday, January 14th, 2018, Rock at Night was there to greet one of our favorites, The Hummingbirds, doing their second Poisonville show in the spacious lobby (with perfect acoustics) at the friendly Ramada Inn close to the hospital and right on Route 301. Logan Charles III opened the show with some comedy. The Hummingbirds, the husband and wife duo of Rachel Lynn and S.G. Wood believe in this project and support Henri Wong’s endeavor and they were doing an afternoon show there. They played a great hour and a half set performing some of the old favorites from their stellar album “13 Days” and lots of new songs, too.

The Hummingbirds

The Hummingbirds were more like “reverse snowbirds” for many years, traveling back and forth between Michigan and Florida when their day jobs permitted it and playing everything from private parties, small venues and bars to large music festivals (i.e., Gasparilla Music Festival 2016) Wowing audiences everywhere, they decided to move to Tampa full time about two years ago. Rock at Night interviewed them while they were at the Hideaway Lounge in St. Petersburg in September 2015; they were playing a gig for their first CD release party.

Rock at Night got to sit down for a few minutes and talk to Henri Wong about the Poisonville Songs Project; his musical activism, his aims of building community around music, the history and his vision of the project going into the future. Take a listen…
