THE PREATURES celebrate their new album ‘Girlhood’ with a grown up Australian tour

Australia’s versatile band, The Preatures, is out on tour, celebrating the release of their new album Girlhood. The album reflects on girlhood memories and confronting womanhood in a male dominated music industry. The Preatures certainly showed that they are ‘all grown up’ now with a stunning performance in Adelaide, despite front-woman Izzi, suffering from the flu.

The band is lead by the very charismatic Isabella Manfredi, who was the driving force and producer of the new album. Drawing on inspiration from her own life, growing up, and hometown Sydney, topics that question womanhood dominate the album. On stage, Izzi is a real show woman. Dressed in a black leather jacket covered in decorative cloth badges (hearts, flower collages and Chanel) and slick, glossy black pants, she broadcasted her conflict between girlhood & tomboy preferences perfectly.

They opened their set with I Know A Girl’, an infectious track recorded in 2016. It was a perfect introduction for the recurring ‘Woman theme’, that dominated throughout. Despite illenss, Izzy gave a very strong performance, throwing herself into stylish poses at the audience, playing up to the other band members and she even played a solo track.

The Preatures performed most of the songs from their new album. Titles like ‘Lip Balm’ and ‘The First Night’ take us girls back to a distant place in time. Izzy’s velvety voice dives and swoops like a swallow in waves of tenderness in ‘The First Night’.

Another reflective song from the new album was ‘Cherry Ripe’, where Izzy moved to keys. It was the first song written for the new album. It is a thoughtful ballad that grew and developed like a child growing into adulthood.

‘Nite Machine’ is a livelier song, which gave Jack Moffitt, the lead guitarist, the opportunity to showcase his talents. They closed with ‘Is This How You Feel’, the song that brought them to fame in 2013 when they scored 9th spot on Triple J’s Hottest 100. It was one of the songs the crowd had been waiting for and a fitting way to end the night.

Adelaide’s Rin McArdle and Sydney’s 2-piece, Polish Club, were great support acts. The energetic Polish Club were definite crowd-pleasers and had the audience jumping.

The Preatures have more shows on their current tour, so check them out if you can.
