Review: Bad//Dreems, Mob Rule Tour

Venue: Fat Controller, Adelaide. 16th Decenber, 2016

When everyone in the front row ‘high fives’ you as you walk into the photo pit, you know you’re in for a good show. This set the tone for Adelaide’s Garage/Punk band, BAD//DREEMS‘ sold out show at Fat Controller last night. An energized crowd was more than ready for their hometown’s newest favourites, after support bands Battlehounds and Grenadiers got the crowd going.

Although the band has been playing and producing music for 3 years, I only came across them recently when they supported Australia’s DMAs on their Australian tour. Since then their new single ‘Mob Rule’ has been on high rotation in Triple J, giving it maximum exposure across Australia, and BAD//DREEMS is almost a household name.

This month they have been taking their Mob Rule tour to major cities around Australia, with all shows SOLD OUT! This demonstrates the speed in which their popularity has grown. Their sound and messages remind me of the garage punk era of the late 70s and early 80s. Raw, grungy, passionate and rebellious are words that come to mind as they highlight their dissatisfaction with the way Government deals with injustice. “History doesn’t mean a thing to you. I see flags on the sand, I see blood on your hands. Had enough of this…Mob Rule”.

Their show contained all the hallmarks of a fun party….crowd surfing, confetti, sharing beers with the audience and a stage cram with the other band’s musicians. Over the course of the show they played all their past hits from their ‘Bad Lands’ EP and their debut album ‘Dogs at Bay’, providing an impressive collection of garage rock anthems.

Although their Australian tour is almost over, I’m sure you’ll get another chance to see these guys real soon. They’re not going to lie down and sleep with the success of this tour sparking their energy. So keep your eyes and ears open for BAD//DREEMS. They’re making an impressive impact on the Australian music scene.
