VENUE: Islington Assembly Hall, London on 6 September 2016

The Jayhawks‘ name will be familiar to anyone with an interest in country rock or alternative country, a musical genre that is enjoying something of a resurgence, possibly due to the popularity of the TV series Nashville. However, The Jayhawks aren’t from the capital of country but from Minneapolis, which gives their sound a more rock feel. After almost 20 years together, the band took a five year hiatus in 2004, reforming on a part-time basis in 2009 and released a new album in 2011, before taking another break. The band have just released a new album, Paging Mr. Proust, which they are promoting on their current UK and European tour, which included two nights at London’s Islington Assembly Hall.

They were supported on the tour by hugely talented and entertaining Ethan Johns & The Blackeyed Dogs, whose British take on country/folk/blues/rock was a perfect complement to the headliners.
