TAMPA BREAKWAY FESTIVAL – April 26th-27th

Venue: Red Hat Amphitheater , Raleigh, North Carolina – August 18 2016

Pink Floyd is one of two “Unicorn” bands for me and the other is Rage Against Machine– but I fulfilled that desire on the next day after this concert (with Prophets of Rage), so needless to say I was pretty flocking’ excited when the editor  gave me this assignment. Wait, but it is just a Tribute Band… well everyone in the audience that I spoke with after the show said it felt was  like a Pink Floyd show, in your backyard venue. I agree.

After the mandatory pit stop at Crank Arm Brewery (yeah, support your local brewery people), I headed to the beautiful Red Hat Amphitheater in Downtown Raleigh. As we entered the pit, we were told we were to shoot only the first two songs, of course, I was immediately bummed, but then I heard the first accords of “Shine on You Crazy Diamond”  after the guitar solo, the stage got inundated in light, and myself on goosebumps. I had to put the camera down for a minute to admire what was unfolding in front of my eyes.

After I was out of the pit, I went back into the venue to enjoy the show, actually standing back with the crowd gave me a full view of the stage and everything that was going on. It was beautiful and powerful and very much Pink Floyd-ish so I honestly had goose bumps when “On The Turning Away” came on. The whole show was magnificent, if you have a chance to go see it, don’t think twice, IT IS worth it.
